Foxhill Race Report

After a major deluge of rain Friday night, the pits panicked that the audacious Foxhill circuit would be unrideable the following day, but all concerns were washed away as the sun shone down on the Swindon track the next morning as a mass of riders arrived for the annual two-day meeting held by Portsmouth MX Club. With the club joining forces with South West to battle it out for the Inter Club Challenge Trophy, riders were all fired up for some brilliant racing on the track, with Portsmouth finishing as the victorious club at the end of the day!

The great turnout of riders were all fighting for trophies after an extended practice and qualifying heats for the adults, and with the adults starting the day off, there was sure to be some breathtaking racing with the likes of Marks, Cooper, Blackwell, Muscat, Padgett, McCarthy, Hassell & Needham all battling for supremacy. But Padgett was the man in each moto, charging straight to the front of a full line-up to secure both wins and the prize money at the end of the day. Dexter Marks wasn’t giving Padgett an easy run though and edged his way closer toward the latter stages of the race, and finished the day as runner up with two second places. Rob Muscat prepared himself for the Ken Hall with some hill practice and took home third place with two thirds.

In the B group Ben Rendall was flying, and unbeatable as he claimed the top prize money for his class after securing both race wins. Dean Stutt was hot on his back mudguard though and pushed hard to catch him, settling for two second places and second overall. Shaun Brooker wasn’t too far behind Stutt, and grabbed third prize after finishing in third and fourth.

A near-full line up of Senior riders powered up the start straight with a battle for first between Aaron O’Mahony, Russell Cramp & Keaton Butler, but O’Mahony pushed hardest to secure the last race win and won in style to secure the overall victory. Cramp secured his first race win in race one but succumbed to Butlers pressure in race two, still managing to score enough points to take home second overall. Butler crept closer to O’Mahony in race two to finish in the runner up spot, and ended the day in third overall.

Joe Jefferies totally annihilated the Inter Open field, riding with such style and speed he was a pleasure to watch and undisputedly took both wins to claim top prize. Dean Symons have chase and finished the day in the runner-up spot with Jack Sherwin completing the top three with two thirds.

Henry Siddiqui was the first of the smaller-wheeled 85 riders to appear in the mix and was dominant at the front of the pack, claiming both first places to finish up in top spot. Brendan Cooper had a good day on the track, to finish up in second overall ahead of Jake Curtis-Stevens who grabbed two thirds to finish third overall.

Riding to perfection, Ryan Tanner was unbeatable, miles ahead of his rivals in the Junior class and lapping so quickly he confused the lapscorers! Claiming both wins, he grabbed first prize. After a brilliant hole-shot in race one, Buddy Shipton stormed to the front of the pack and chased Tanner down, claiming two seconds to finish the runner-up . Ben Richards battled hard with Todd Leadbitter but finishing in third in race two, he grabbed third overall.

Harry White was way out in front but a slight spill denied him securing two wins in the Auto class, but finishing in front in race two rewarded him the overall victory. Harvey James took the honours in race one and chased White hard in race two and finishing in second he secured the runner-up spot. Vinnie Guthrie worked hard and pushing his way into third in race two he secured third overall.

With all the racing finished, the riders were rewarded an extra bonus at the end of the day as Stephen Sword made a surprise visit to present the trophies, leaving everyone with a huge smile on their face!

After a well earned rest the riders woke the next morning to blue skies and faced another challenging day on the track.

Although a number of riders had ventured off to the Ken Hall, the action was still as exciting with the Adult A group taking control of the meeting once again. As in the previous day, Gareth Padgett seemed unbeatable but with the added addition of Jake Shipton he didn’t have it all his own way as Shipton took the lead. But a nasty crash on the woops saw Jake bow out early in the race, and Padgett led the way in all three motos to reign supreme once again. Jake Hassell went hell for leather in each moto, pulling his finger out to move into second spot, riding brilliantly to secure second overall. Jamie McCarthy battled hard in each moto, determined to improve on his previous days racing, and adding a brilliant second to his other scores, he ended the day in third overall.

The B group was full to the brim with riders, with Dean Stutt taking over the lead after Ben Rendalls early departure. With an impressive last race win, Stutt took the overall win. Jordan Talmage had a great day on the track, smoothly moving into second place in the final moto to secured second overall. After a slow start to the day, Shaun Brooker upped his pace by the last race, and powered his way into fourth place, fighting off the opposition to secure third overall.

Aaron O’Mahony was on a mission in the Senior class, and rode impressively in all three motos to secure the overall win, two firsts tucked neatly under his crash helmet to end his weekend perfectly. Keaton Butler kept the leading duo in his sights, but stepped up the pace in race three to move into second place to secure second overall. Russell Cramp once again had a brilliant opening moto to secure the win but a disastrous last race moved him well down the field, but his high scoring in the other races still rewarded his efforts with third overall.

After an impressive victory on day one, Joe Jefferies replicated his performance, and with two inspirational wins in the opening motos he secured the overall once again. As the heavens opened in the final block, Dean Symons took over at the front of the field, securing a race win for himself, and ended the weekend in second overall. Oli Evans rode brilliantly, taking it steady but a confident set of rides rewarded him with third overall.

Without winning a race, Jamie-Lee Burges stole away the overall victory in the Inter 85 class, as he braved the treacherous conditions in the closing moto to ensure he completed all three races. Staying in contention with three top four finishes he ended his weekend as overall winner. Jordan Allen battled on through the rain to chase down the leading riders, and finishing up in third in the last race he secured second overall. Ashdon Mantelow had pushed hard all weekend to secure a high placing and being one of only six riders braving the elements in race three, he powered into second place to end his weekend on a high by finishing in third overall.

There was no stopping Ryan Tanner as he once again totally dominated the Junior class, pulling out a tremendous lead over his rivals, and he secured all three wins to take home the overall victory. With Buddy Shipton deciding against riding the final moto, Todd Leadbitter and Jamie Turner battled it out for the runner-up spot, but Leadbitters consistent racing resulting in three third places gave him the advantage and he ended the day in second overall. Mud-king Turner was oblivious of the dodgy conditions in race three and powered the KTM home to an awesome second place, finishing the weekend off in third overall.

A brilliant end to Harry White’s weekend as he stole all three wins away from his rivals in the Auto class, immaculate riding rewarding him with the overall victory. Austin Wild and Harvey James battled it out for second place, with both riders placing second and third in the opening motos. But Wild rode hard in the mud to finish runner up in the last race and overall on the day, with James finishing in third overall.

A brilliant weekend, well done to all the Portsmouth crew for organising the event, the Club would like to thank all those that attended, to wish those who were injured a speedy recovery and a big thank you to Stephen Sword!
