"Slip, sliding away!"

Ringmer – Rd 9 Summer

With the dry spell continuing, the track at Ringmer was as dry as a bone, but constant watering throughout the previous evening kept the dust at bay for Portsmouth MX Clubs latest summer championship round. Unfortunately the heavens opened as practice began, and by block two the track had turned into a mud bath with riders slipping and sliding off all around the track, and racing was regrettably cut short. But there was still some great racing as the riders tried out a new circuit on the clubs calendar.
A brilliant line up of Senior riders were the first group to sit behind the start gate, and when it dropped, they piled around the first corner. Dan Maxey was on fine form and was back to his normal self to secure the overall win, securing the first race win adding a second in race two to bag the victory. Jordan Carrier had a comfortable lead in race two, but succumbed to the pressure of Maxey and Bligh, but still raced well in both motos to finish up in second overall, passing the finish line in third in each race. Mit Bligh was well on his way to a great position in race one, but disappeared from view, only to resurface in sixth place. To redeem himself, he powered into the lead in race two, a brilliant race win to ensure a top three overall finish.
The Inter Open class was next to the line, with a great turnout being led around the first turn by Josh Coleman who fought hard in each race to grab a win. But once again the outstanding Jack Eldridge dominated the class, securing both wins and lapping riders quickly to secure the overall victory. Coleman pushed hard to finish in second in each race to take home second overall. A great ride from Michael Denton who had to work hard to keep Gary Dalton from snatching away his position, but did enough to keep ahead to finish in fourth and third to end the day in third overall.
After an awesome performance at the GT Cup Michael Ellis was still on a high in the Inter 85 class, and continued his winning streak, pulling away from the rest of the pack with ease to secure both race wins, bagging the overall victory. Henry Siddiqui was again hot on his heels, secured two easy second places to finish in second overall. Charlie Way had some work to do in the second moto, but put in a brilliant performance to work his way through the pack into third place, repeating his first race position to end the day in third overall.
Daniel Sultana rode an inspiring race in the muddy conditions in the Junior class. After settling for second after a great first race win by Gary Ashley, Sultana took the lead from the drop of the gate in race two, staying well in front of his rivals to secure the win, a great result securing the overall victory. Bradley Smith kept Sultana’s rear mudguard in his sights in each moto, edging closer with each lap, crossing the line in third and second to finish in second overall. A brilliant show from Ben Richards who kept his nerve in the tricky conditions, working his way into third place in race two following a fifth in the first moto, doing just enough to grab third overall from Liam Jones.
A good turnout of Auto riders were out next, with Kayden Algar unstoppable in race one, bagging the first race win, but injury unfortunately left him unable to replicate his victory in the second moto. So it was left to Cain Marsh and Luke Williamson to battle it out for supremacy of the class, with Marsh storming into the lead in the second race from the drop of the gate, and rode a brilliant race to secure the overall win. Williamson rode sensibly to stay on the bike and finished second in each moto to take home second overall. As conditions wiped out most of the field, Harry White stayed focused and remained in third position in race two, a great result and was rewarded with third overall.
The VMX, AMX Novice and EVO riders joined forces for the next set of races, with a tremendous battle out front between the VMX lads. Paul Spacagna took control of race one after Steve Lyons had taken the lead from the off, but Spags made the move into the lead and crossed the line first. A good effort in race two left him just missing out on a second win but still took the overall victory. Darren Hansford joined in the fun at the front, and an inspiring move on Nick Lynds before the finish line pushed him up into second, then picked off Spags to move into the lead, securing him second overall. Lynds battled hard in each race to storm past riders with ease, a great move in the second moto pushing him ahead of Tony Hale to bag third place, rewarding him with third overall on the day. Only two EVO contenders braved the conditions, with Ian Cameron taking first place ahead of Kev Randall as both riders battled it out mid-pack. Enjoying his time on the bike, Scotty Sanders remained high up the leaderboard in both motos, a brilliant fifth in race two in the mud, but securing the overall victory in his class with two firsts, with Lee White and Brendon Thacker finishing in second and third overall.
Last out were the AMX and although there were only a handful of riders on the track, the action was still immense, but there was no disputing the overall winner on the day, Arron Jenner comfortably winning each race, cruising into the lead after the first corner and making it look too easy. But a brilliant scrap was in progress behind between Wildman Willis and Adam Cooper. Wildman just had the edge in the first race to secure second place with Cooper in third, but Cooper bided his time, and with only two laps to go, made a brilliant move in the back field to storm past Willis, pulling away and passed the flag in second place to secure second overall with Willis ending the day in third overall.
